30. Age of the Earth—History’s Opinion

I have shown in the preceding articles in this series on the Age of the Earth that the consensus of scientific and Biblical scholarship throughout the first 18 centuries following Christ’s birth was that the earth was well under 10,000 years old.

The weight of 18 centuries of scholarly opinion should not be jettisoned for two centuries of evolutionist opinion of questionable veracity and dubious objectivity.

The testimony of all historical chronologies from many different cultures should not be casually dismissed. Throughout history the great preponderance of scholarship regarding the Biblical records and the unanimous testimony of cultures worldwide is that the earth is only thousands of years old.

This completes the blog posts in this series on the Age of the Earth that look at what a variety of churchmen, scholars, and scientists have thought about the age of the earth throughout history. Next I’ll discuss radiometric dating and other scientific methods for estimating the age of the earth.

I began with the Biblical testimony that the earth is 6,000 years old, because the evidence from nature should be interpreted and understood in the light of clear Biblical truth.
