5. Evolutionism in Politics

Darwin’s books were racist. In The Descent of Man Darwin said people with dark skin were “degraded.” He said he would rather be descended from a monkey than from such a “savage.”

Similarly, his most famous book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life, endorsed the concept of “favored races” and denied a moral standard.

If man is not accountable to a Creator, then there is no authoritative standard for determining right and wrong. Every man decides what is right in his own eyes. In effect, might becomes right.

Evolutionism has poisoned politics. Karl Marx, the father of communism, believed Darwinism contained the scientific foundation for his socio-economic views. Young Joseph Stalin abandoned his theological studies after reading Darwin, becoming an atheist. Hitler embraced Darwin’s survival-of-the-fittest concept and applied it to promote the “Aryan race” and murder the “unfit.” China’s Mao Tse-tung and Cambodia’s Pol Pot similarly justified their mass murders.

Darwin’s philosophy permeated these men’s worldviews. With morality negated, they did as they pleased, including genocide. They applied Darwin’s view that men are not created and are not equal. Over 100 million deaths resulted.
