Continuing the Fox in the Hen House! series of blog posts exposing heresy about Genesis …
Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis (AiG), has co-authored with Dr. Greg Hall, president of Warner University, the recently published book Already Compromised. It reviews research from 2010 on the position that over 200 Christian colleges, universities, and seminaries take on Genesis.
The research was done by Britt Beamer of America’s Research Group. He questioned 4 officials at each school: president, vice-president, a science department head, and a theology/religion department head.
Presidents tended to give answers that parents would want to hear. Vice-presidents often differed as they reflected more accurately what professors actually believed and taught.
The results are quite alarming. Compromise is rampant. Many schools endorse and teach some version of theistic evolution. Many “Christian” schools no longer stand for the plain literal truth of Genesis. Over 40% of respondents said they did not believe God created the earth in six literal days.
Interestingly, the science departments were more literal in their interpretation of Genesis than the religion departments.
78% of religion departments believe in billions of years for the age of the earth, while only 35% of the science departments do so.
15% of religion departments believe in thousands of years for the age of the earth, while 57% of science departments do so.
7-8% of both groups believe neither.
School administrators are turning a blind eye to what is taught and are doing almost nothing to eradicate heresy from their curricula.
The research results are reported statistically without naming specific schools. However, here is the long List of Schools Interviewed.
AiG also maintains a Creation Colleges List of schools whose president (or designee) affirms the AiG Statement of Faith. Pathetically, only 5 schools are currently on the list. I know of a few more that will likely be added soon. Probably only about a score of schools in the country can make the list currently. That in itself reflects the sad state of respect for and adherence to Biblical authority in our colleges. Too many fear man over God.
After 6 months or so one can compare the two lists and learn the general position of a school of interest.
Parents need to question faculty and administrators themselves to ensure that they teach in accord with parental convictions on the authority of Scripture, including Genesis. The book contains an appendix with specific questions to use in interviewing a college’s officials and professors to ascertain exactly what they believe and teach. Parents should use these questions to hold schools accountable to us the customers.
Soli Deo Gloria.

“contending earnestly for the faith” (Jude 1:3)

Read my May 2011 newspaper column:
When the Sun Stood Still.
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority. (Colossians 2:6-10)
