3. Recommended Resources – Creation Museums

Is there any real evidence for Creation? Does all evidence support Evolutionism?

Check out some creation museums to learn how proper interpretations of evidence support the Biblical record and contradict the evolutionary story.

When you see the world through Biblical glasses, all the world is a creation museum.

When you see the world through Biblical glasses, all the world is a creation museum!

The creation museums described below are especially helpful in teaching children the truth about origins. They make superb vacation destinations as well. Use them to show your children the glory of God in their science studies.

This is the 3rd article in a series covering these six categories of
Recommended Resources:
1. Creation Science
2. Creation Science For Kids
3. Creation Museums
4. Intelligent Design
5. Apologetics
6. Christianity, Culture, & Vocation

Each resource is accompanied by a brief description of what it provides. Listing of a resource simply means the resource has significant value. It does not mean that I endorse everything in it.

3. Creation Museums

Note: Visits to any of the various Creation museums around the country can encourage youth to explore science apart from the corrupting influence of the evolutionary thought which dominates science classes. Creation museums help demonstrate understanding of science within a Biblical worldview and help show that the whole earth is full of the glory of God (Isaiah 6:3). Visit one of these museums. You’ll never regret time and resources invested in knowing God better through exploring His creation!

Creation Museum Tour
This is a series of two articles describing a tour of eight of the creation museums listed below.

Creation Museum – Petersburg, KY
Sponsored by Answers in Genesis, this is the premier creation museum in the world. Its motto is “Prepare to Believe.” The $27 million museum opened on May 28, 2007. The museum is within a day’s drive of 2/3 of the U.S. population. Over 400,000 toured the 70,000-square-foot facility in its first year. The article Creation Museum describes a 3-day visit to the museum. We have found the Creation Museum to be far more interesting and informative than the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. A 10-foot high, 30-foot long Allosaurus dinosaur skeleton is one of the museum’s prime exhibits. The museum property also features the best zip line course in the Midwest with over two and a half miles of zip lines and sky bridges.

Akron Fossils and Science Center (AFSC) – Akron, OH
AFSC features hands-on science activities and guided tours. Exhibits display fossils from Ohio and around the world. Devoted to teaching creation science and intelligent design models of the origin and history of life (in contrast to evolutionary models). Includes Truassic Park, a dinosaur-themed 2 1/2 acre outdoor adventure park with a 200-foot zip line. Here is the AFSC Blog.

At the trial: Darrow grilling Bryan on the Bible before 5,000 spectators

Scopes Trial

Scopes Trial Museum
– Dayton, TN
The “Trial of the Century” gasolined a Creation-Evolution conflagration still raging today. Scopes was a battle over free speech, Bible vs. Evolution, and taxpayer control of curricula. Legal ramifications were negligible, but it had enormous symbolic significance. In the popular view, Biblical credibility was damaged and Christianity was impugned when evolutionist Darrow confounded Bible-champion Bryan. Ironically, it is now evolutionists who use courts to enforce their dogma. The Scopes Trial Museum is housed in the restored Rhea County Courthouse, the scene of the July 1925 trial. This link has a panoramic video of the museum. See The Scoop on Scopes for a review and analysis of the trial.

Creation Discovery Museum – Ft. Lauderdale, FL
In 1988, Tom DeRosa founded the Creation Studies Institute, sponsor of the museum. He believed that “lack of knowledge of the Biblical account of creation is greatly responsible for many barriers that keep people from Christ.” This interactive museum tells the account of human origins from a creationist viewpoint. The museum specializes in Ice Age and mammoth fossils and offers hands-on discovery workshops throughout the year.

Creation Adventures Museum (CAM) – Arcadia, FL
Biologist Gary Parker founded CAM with his wife Mary. It encourages Christians “to understand God’s world in the light of God’s Word.” Dr. Parker began his professional career as an atheist and evolutionist but was eventually compelled by evidence to become a creationist. The museum displays an extensive fossil collection from all over the world and offers fossil-hunting canoe trips, fossil digs, hands-on workshops, multi-day field trips, beach trips, Everglades trips, and snorkeling in the Florida Keys.

Creation Today Science Room – Pensacola, FL
This room in the Creation Today store is all that’s left of Kent Hovind’s Dinosaur Adventure Land, a combination theme park and science museum. But the science room has many interesting artifacts, a large ant farm, and a dinosaur hands-on activity area with two velociraptors. It has the largest collection of Ica Stones in North America.

Creation Evidence Museum – Glen Rose, TX
The museum focuses on researching and displaying scientific evidence for creation, particularly excavating and displaying fossils. Dr. Carl Baugh founded the museum in 1984 to preserve and display results of his investigations of dinosaur and human tracks along the Paluxy River. Museum staff has excavated 11 dinosaurs, 475 dinosaur tracks, and 86 human footprints. Pictures and careful records of the excavations document the provenance of the fossils. They provide convincing evidence that humans and dinosaurs lived contemporaneously because of the intermingling of their footprints in many strata along the Paluxy River.

Ica, Peru, Burial Stones

Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum (MBFM) – Crosbyton, TX
MBFM excavates, restores, and displays fossils. Its motto is “Digging up the facts of God’s Creation: one fossil at a time.” Museum founder and tour guide Joe Taylor is a premier fossil restorationist whose work is solicited by museums and universities worldwide. MBFM is a scientific and educational institution dedicated to correct interpretations of Earth history and fossil remains: “We believe that evolution is an old-fashioned theory not substantiated by facts. What the Bible says is more scientifically accurate. Our museum shows there was a worldwide flood only a few thousand years ago. We show that most species are not getting more complex or larger. Numerous specimens show most fossils were buried rapidly.” MBFM displays burial stones from Ica, Peru. Over 11,000 of these stones have been found, with almost a third depicting men with dinosaurs. The Ica stones, engraved long before man discovered dinosaur fossils, corroborate the Bible’s record of man and dinosaurs co-existing. A plaster cast of dinosaur tracks crossing giant human footprints found along the Paluxy River in the 1970s is on display.

Creation and Earth History Museum (CEHM) – Santee, CA
Dr. Henry Morris, father of modern creationism, founded CEHM as part of the Institute for Creation Research. CEHM, the world’s first creation museum, is a 4,000-square-foot “Walk Through History.” Displays chronicle earth’s history beginning with the Six Days of Creation. Extensive information about the Flood includes a model of Noah’s Ark. Geologic strata, river canyons, volcanoes, and fossils are explained as relics of the Flood. An exhibit of the volcanic events in 1980 at Mt. St. Helens shows how the Grand Canyon could have formed quickly in only weeks following the Flood. Another exhibit explains the Ice Age as resulting from the Flood. CEHM displays a conjectured model of the Tower of Babel that Noah’s great-grandson Nimrod built and artifacts from ancient cultures that were dispersed over the earth. Eventually the “Walk through History” reaches the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, proclaiming the world’s Creator as its Savior. Additional displays feature the apostolic and early Church periods, Renaissance, and Reformation. The Dueling Scholars Hall highlights prominent protagonists on both sides of the Creation-Evolution debate. After ICR moved to Dallas, Texas, in 2008, it sold the museum. The Life and Light Foundation now operates it. Here is a virtual tour of the museum. The museum’s dedication plaque reads, “Dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ. From this building may His great Creation be applied to benefit mankind for whom He died and rose to save from sin.” The museum is open 9 am – 6 pm, Monday to Saturday, and admission is free.

Mt. St. Helens & Spirit Lake Before 1980 eruption

Mt. St. Helens & Spirit Lake
Before 1980 eruption

7 Wonders Creation Museum
– Silverlake, WA
Catastrophic change at Mount St. Helens is the theme of 7 Wonders. Secular geology has long supported evolution by arguing that the earth changes slowly over millions of years. At 7 Wonders you will learn how layering and canyons were formed quickly by ash fall, mud flows, and pyroclastic flows. A mini Grand Canyon was carved in hours. The Mt. St. Helens Creation Information Center has a wealth of information and pictures including a Visitors Resource Packet to prepare for a visit or to facilitate study of the volcano in a homeschool.

Big Valley Creation Science Museum
– Big Valley, Alberta, Canada
Canada’s first permanent creation museum opened in June 2007 with world-class dinosaur fossils. It explains fossils and the geological column in terms of Noah’s Flood, arguing that dinosaurs lived recently and co-existed with man. Trails outside the museum lead children on a tour of dinosaur fossils. Highlights of the museum include a fossilized human foot in a boot, an iron pot in a lump of coal (claimed by evolutionists to be 312 million years old), and a giant model of Noah’s Ark. A DNA model illustrates compelling evidence for design by a Creator and disputes claims of naturalistic, random evolution. A genealogical display of scrolls from Lambeth Palace traces the genealogy of England’s King Henry VI (1421-1471) all the way back to Adam and Eve.

Soli Deo Gloria.

For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods, in whose hand are the depths of the earth. The peaks of the mountains are His also. The sea is His, for it was He who made it; and His hands formed the dry land. Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. (Psalm 95:3-6)
