Ignoring God’s Clues

I found this sign fascinating! I saw it at the Grand Portage National Monument on the north shore of Lake Superior in the northeastern tip of Minnesota. (Click picture to enlarge.)

 
Notice the time stamps on this sign:
“…these sand layers were laid down around 1.8 billion years ago.”
“…1.1 billion years ago, a super-heated magma…”

Another sign in the area said:
“Turn back the clock 2 billion years. The land around you was flat as a pancake and lay beneath the waves of a great ocean.”

A sign about Ancient Volcanoes a little southwest in Grand Marais claimed:
“1.1 billion years ago a giant volcanic rift began to open where Lake Superior now lies. Huge lava flows erupted from the rift, spreading over hundreds of square miles of the landscape, some only inches thin, others many feet thick. The flows were periodically interrupted by explosive eruptions, showering boulders onto the land and water. The weight of the solidified lava bent and tipped the layers of rock in what must have been a series of earthquakes. Finally, the rift began to close, closing finally so firmly that islands were pushed up from the surrounding rock like watermelon seeds from between your fingers. The North Shore landscape we see today is rooted in these volcanoes.”

These time estimates on the signs are absurdly in error.

Note these clues mentioned on the signs:
“This rock was once the sandy bottom of the enormous sea that once covered the region.”
“…a super-heated magma, or molten rock, pushed up from more than 50 miles below the earth’s surface into vertical cracks in the sandstone layer.”
“These dikes are all part of a much larger geological feature, the Mid-continent Rift, a deep volcanic valley that lay beneath what is now Lake Superior and extended to the southwest as far as Kansas.”
“The land around you…lay beneath the waves of a great ocean.”
“…giant volcanic rift began to open where Lake Superior now lies. Huge lava flows erupted…spreading over hundreds of square miles…periodically interrupted by explosive eruptions…”

HELLO, NOAH’S FLOOD!!!

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. (Genesis 7:11-12; 19-20 NASB)

The geological features referred to by the pictured sign were formed by Noah’s Flood and its aftermath around 4500 years ago. It is striking how the Flood descriptions in Genesis 7 match what has been observed.

The clues to the truth have been noticed by geologists. The clues to the truth are printed right there on the signs. However, the evolutionist presuppositions of the signmakers prevented them from seeing the connection with Noah’s Flood.

Thus they made a huge error, an error by a factor of 400,000 = 1.8 billion / 4500. In most areas of work, one would get fired for being off by a factor of 4. An error factor of 400,000 is unthinkable!

Imagine trying to build a bridge and being off by a factor of 400,000! Imagine a doctor prescribing a dose of medicine that is off by a factor of 400,000! Imagine a bank clerk being off by a factor of 400,000!

This reminds me of what the Apostle Peter said about skeptics:
For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. (2 Peter 3:5-6, NASB)

The phrase “escapes their notice” is often translated “they are willfully ignorant” (KJV21) or “they deliberately overlook” (ESV). Others have proposed the translation “dumb on purpose.” (See 2 Peter 3:5-6 translations for many English versions.)

All over the world the evidence of Noah’s Flood is clear, but men insist on obfuscating and storytelling to suppress the truth. Noah’s Flood explains the geology of the earth.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1:18-20 NASB)

Yahweh has left abundant clues to Himself and His work throughout the world. We ignore them at our peril.

1. Think about your job. What would an error by a factor of 400,000 look like? Could you get by with it?
2. Are you “dumb on purpose” about something God has said in His Word?
