Did God Use Evolution to Make Adam?

(4 Minute Read)

Did Yahweh use a gradual process of development (such as the one imagined by the theory of evolution) to make Adam, the very first man?

Today many Christians think that God may have used an evolutionary process to create Adam. Over the last two centuries many have embraced this view in an attempt to harmonize the Bible with the teachings of Charles Darwin and his followers who popularized the notion of man evolving over millions of years.

Did Adam come from a random evolutionary process involving millions of years of random molecules merging, incomplete life forms, gradual beneficial changes, and eons of death?

Absolutely NOT! The Genesis record emphasizes that God’s immediate evaluation was “very good” for the entirety of His work of creation:
God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)

After Eden 434TillDeathDoUsPart

An inefficient, haphazard, death-saturated process like evolution would never be described as “very good” by the omniscient Almighty Creator! Therefore death could not have been part of the original “very good” Adam-making process, as evolution requires.

Moreover, Scripture specifies that death entered the world as a result of the sin by Adam which obviously occurred after Adam’s creation:
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12).

It is clear from Genesis that sin (and therefore death) occurred after the completion of creation. Before death was in effect, no evolutionary development could occur to produce Adam.

On Day Six of Creation Week, Genesis records that the Lord God took earth, formed the first man Adam, and breathed life into him. From mud to man by God’s own hand, Adam was created in one day with no evolutionary antecedents:
Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7 NASB)

Jesus Himself also clearly taught that there were no long eras of evolution leading up to Adam. For Jesus asserted,
From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.” (Mark 10:6-9)
According to Jesus, God created Adam and Eve fully formed as man and woman ready for marriage at the Beginning, NOT after billions of years of evolution following the Beginning.

After Eden 429DeadlineTime

The clear unambiguous thrust of Genesis 1 is that God created the world, including Adam and Eve, in six days by His Word. There’s no time for Evolution which would require at least millions of years.

Moreover, Yahweh designed reproduction according to kind to propagate life. Genesis specifies that God created life and provided for its orderly continuation through each kind multiplying. Ten times the historical record in Genesis 1 says “after their kind.” There was and is no evolution of one life kind to another. No kind ever developed into a different kind.

This pattern has been man’s consistent observation, without a single exception, throughout the 6,000 years of earth history. Great variation may appear within a kind, yet each kind reproduces only after its own kind. The Dog kind has great variety: wolves, Great Danes, bulldogs, foxes, Chihuahuas, huskies, dingoes. But dogs always produce dogs. Dogs never produce cats or camels or crocodiles or canaries or any other kind of non-dog life.

Thus Adam was not the result of evolution from another kind of life. Adam did not evolve from some common ancestor with apes. The human kind only produces humans, and no other life kind ever produces humans. Adam was the original human made by God’s own hand. Adam did not evolve from any other kind of life.

Did Jesus Believe in Evolution?

Jesus Himself recognized reproduction only within kind when He said, “Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they?” (Matthew 7:15-20) The logical argument Jesus was making (on identifying false teachers by their fruit) disintegrates unless reproduction of life is only according to kind; otherwise grapes might come from thorn bushes!

Jesus obviously did NOT believe in the evolution of one kind of life into another. He did not believe Adam was a product of evolution.

Evolution was not an issue in Jesus’ day. The Jews believed in Creation, because they were disciples of Moses who wrote down the Genesis account of creation. But what would Jesus have answered if asked whether God used evolution to make Adam? I think Jesus would have answered something like this:

Have you not read, “From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. The Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” Adam was the original son of God made by My own hand. (cf Mark 10:6-9; Genesis 2:7; John 1:1-3)

Worldviews Collide

Evolutionism and Creationism are directly opposed to each other, and the consequences of the two worldviews diverge dramatically. Evolutionism is sinful man’s futile attempt to explain how life arose by natural processes without acknowledging God. Sadly many Christians have been fooled and led astray through their desire to be accepted by the world and by pressure from current scientific opinion.

Scripture is crystal clear: God created Adam
from the ground on Creation Day Six. Evolution
played no part in God’s work of Creation.

The notion that God used Evolution to create Adam is a completely speculative belief. There is no historical documentation supporting such a belief. There is no Biblical basis for such a belief. There is no hard scientific evidence supporting such a belief. No scientist ever observed the evolution of a life-kind into Adam. It’s simply a belief about the unobservable past, not a historical fact. It’s a belief driven by a worldview commitment to Evolutionism. Molecules-to-man evolutionism is the God-denying religion of our time.

In a day of rampant confusion on this issue, it is vital for believers to know what Scripture teaches. We must stand firm, as pillars in support of the truth, able to articulate a logical and compelling explanation of origins according to the Word of God.

So, did God use evolution to create Adam? The answer is an unequivocal NO! Belief in evolution as a mechanism for the formation of Adam contradicts the clear teaching of both Genesis and Jesus, and slanders Yahweh’s character as well.

Scripture is crystal clear: God created Adam from the ground on Creation Day Six. Evolution played no part in Yahweh’s work of Creation. God’s people must follow the clear creationist teaching of Scripture and oppose the world’s evolutionary propaganda.

Questions to Ponder
  1. Can you think of one piece of hard, unassailable evidence that one kind of life changed into another?
  2. If Jesus did not believe Adam was the product of Evolution, what firm evidence is there to overrule Him?

The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

  1. Bill, I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed reading this article. The devil must hate your gift of simply stating these clear Biblical truths combined with making your readers consider what their Creator and their Savior both have said to enforce these truths. The alternatively held corrupted beliefs, that must make the devil proud in his work, held by so many of our fellow church members, Bible study attendees, Christian brothers and sisters with whom we walk through this life, don’t even have a chance at being intellectually reasonable in light of what the Word and the Lord have to so clearly say about them. It is no wonder that the Lord gave in Matthew 7:23, for all who think they carry the name “Christian”, the warning to consider, “I never knew you.” I still contend that people lie to themselves more than they lie to all others. Saying that you believe and follow Christ but not believing what His Word says about His creation is just the effortless execution of the human condition (our wicked flesh) of so expertly lying to oneself. We are Satan’s followers first. jed

    • Thanks for your encouraging words, ggssgod. You make some good points. It is very sad how successful the devil is at deceiving God’s people about His great work of creation.
