What U.S. Army general cited this creationist verse as one of his favorite Bible verses?
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
The Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is inscrutable.
(Isaiah 40:28)
Amazingly, this man skipped a high school algebra class in order to attend an ROTC recruiting presentation. (I always loved math, so I never skipped a math class for anything!) Who is he?
This Green Beret was the ground force commander for the 1993 rescue operation of two downed Blackhawk helicopters in Mogadishu, Somalia. This was later depicted in the book and film, Black Hawk Down. Who is he?
This man served in pivotal leadership roles in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired in 2008 as the Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Special Operations Command. Who is he?
Twice this man nearly lost his life serving his country. He broke his back in a helicopter crash in Panama. In Somalia a mortar round detonated beside him, nearly severing his leg and inflicting multiple life-threatening injuries. Who is he?
This former Delta Force commander retired as a two-star general from the Army at age 57, concluding a 35-year career serving in every post-Vietnam hot spot, from Grenada to Panama to Colombia to Somalia to Iraq to Afghanistan. He said, “Combat is difficult at best and God’s Peace is sometimes the only relief.”
Who is this man?

Major General Gary Harrell
This man is Major General Gary Lynn Harrell (1951–2023). General Harrell died several weeks ago on February 14 from glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.
When General Harrell was asked about his near death experience in Somalia, he said this:
“I was a follower of Jesus Christ. About halfway through the ordeal that night, I realized that one of two things was going to happen to me:
1. I would die and go home to my Heavenly Father, or
2. I would get better and go home to my loving wife and children. When I realized that, I felt the Peace that passeth all understanding
(Philippians 4:7). I cannot explain that experience but when I came to that realization, I calmed down and waited to see which way I was going. I could talk for several hours about the miracles that God worked as He brought me back home. . . . Many family and friends were praying for me on their knees back home.”
When General Harrell was asked about spiritual activities while on assignment, he said this:
“There was always a lot of prayer; there are not many atheists in foxholes. When you live on the edge, you know that the Grace of God is all that gets you through some of the tough calls. I always liked to run the tough missions on Wednesday or Sunday night because I knew that there were more people back home praying for our safety on those nights. . . . It is always difficult to be separated from those you love for long periods of time. A strong faith in God helps that time to pass more quickly and the love and prayers of family and strong Christians helps to keep the families going. Having a wonderful wife waiting at home, praying for her husband and his men to come home safely, was always essential to a strong marriage and a happy family. Our Christian family at church and in the unit were also instrumental in supporting family members back home.”
At Harrell’s retirement ceremony, some 40 generals gathered to say good-bye. His boss, Lt. General Robert Wagner, said this might be a record. Wagner said of Harrell, “If it was complex, if it was difficult or critical to our nation, Gary was there. I relied on Gary’s unmatched expertise, broad credibility, judgment, and commonsense advice on every decision we made.”
Retired Col. Cliff Vicars said of Harrell, “Everybody knew him as a physically strong man, but he was equally a humble, kind and a gracious fellow. Those of us who knew of his military service looked upon him as being a true hero.”
Harrell’s wife Jenny said of him, “He was a strong Christian patriot who loved his country and would’ve done anything for his country, until the day he died. He loved life. He loved people. He fought the good fight. He battled to the very end.”
Belief in a Creator is common sense based on looking at what has been created. This was the conviction and argument of
Paul the Apostle (Romans 1:18-23),
President Thomas Jefferson,
Benjamin Franklin,
Sir Isaac Newton,
John Calvin,
Dr. Werner von Braun,
George Washington Carver,
Johann Kepler,
Blaise Pascal,
Robert Boyle,
Dr. Raymond Damadian,
President Herbert Hoover,
Billy Sunday,
William Jennings Bryan,
Dr. Rosalind Picard,
Professor Charles Hodge,
Roger Sherman,
General Gary Harrell,
and innumerable other leading thinkers throughout history. These men and women believed in a Creator and Intelligent Designer. None would have been fooled by the evolutionism that hoodwinks so many today. Throughout history the vast majority of mankind has known that there must be a Creator.
General Gary Harrell believed man was made by God. Today’s intellectuals would do well to pay heed to this eminent patriot — one whose prowess and achievements far exceed those of most today.

“contending earnestly for the faith”
“destroying speculations against the knowledge of God”
“for the defense of the gospel”
(Jude 1:3; 2 Cor 10:5; Phil 1:16)
Wednesday March 8, 2023 A.D.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. (Romans 1:18-23)
