2019 Christmas Quiz

(2 Minute Read)

Homemade Christmas Quiz Card
Used to teach the Bible record of Christmas

Christmas is rapidly approaching. It’s one of my favorite seasons of the year. At Christmas we commemorate the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God and Savior of mankind.

You probably feel the nativity story is extremely familiar — but how well do you really know the Scriptural account of the first Christmas 2000 years ago?

When my children were young we played games and quizzes during the Christmas season to implant accurate Biblical knowledge and truths in their hearts and minds.

One of the games we played was designed to teach them the Scriptural facts surrounding Jesus’ birth. I used 5×7 file cards and added brief phrases and pictures depicting the nativity events. I used pictures from Christmas cards and Sunday School material. The family challenge was to arrange the scrambled cards in order.

Young children could handle a few basics, while teens hoped to be accurate across the full array. Sometimes I had them work individually and sometimes in teams. Sometimes I had older ones check and correct younger ones’ answers. Often there were small treats for success. Two of these Christmas Quiz Cards are pictured with this quiz.

Scrambled Events Surrounding Jesus’ Birth

See if you can put the following 25 events in correct historical order. Watch out for being misled by movies, Christmas cards, or Christmas carols! The answer will be included in next week’s blog post 2019 Christmas Quiz Answers.

Hint: Here is a Christmas Events Harmonization I prepared which I would read daily to our children during the Christmas season. It is a harmonization of the Gospel passages telling of the Birth of Jesus Christ to help put the events in the proper order. To keep the children’s interest, I would keep halting unpredictably as I read, pointing to different kids to supply the next word or phrase. Sometimes we would dramatically re-enact portions of the Biblical account.

Questions to Ponder

1. Why was it important for Jesus to be born of a virgin?
2. Why were shepherds selected for the angelic announcement of Jesus’ birth?

Share your thoughts on these questions in the comments below. It could encourage or help another reader.
